Our Objective
"The project aimed to conduct comprehensive stakeholder research and consultation with people with disabilities, insurance companies, and regulatory authorities to assess current insurance accessibility. The initiative sought to raise awareness about barriers faced by people with disabilities in accessing insurance services and advocate for improved, equitable access without discriminatory additional costs or premiums, fostering greater financial inclusion."
Project Overview
This project was a research initiative that examined the awareness and accessibility of insurance services—particularly life insurance—for people with disabilities in Nepal. The study investigated whether individuals with disabilities were informed about available insurance options and whether insurance companies actively welcomed and included them as customers.
The project was executed through four sequential phases. The first phase focused on research design and development of multiple data collection instruments to gather comprehensive information from various stakeholders. The second phase involved primary data collection through online surveys, key informant interviews, focus group discussions with people with disabilities, and written questionnaires administered to insurance companies. The third phase comprised secondary data analysis, reviewing existing documentation including published reports, relevant legislation, and policy documents.
The final phase involved data analysis and reporting, which produced comprehensive findings about the barriers and challenges people with disabilities face in accessing insurance services. The project engaged multiple stakeholder groups including people with disabilities, insurance companies, insurance regulatory authorities in Nepal, and other relevant parties to assess the current state of insurance accessibility. The research findings were synthesized to document barriers and provide recommendations for improving insurance accessibility for this population, ultimately promoting equitable access to insurance services without discriminatory practices.
