UNWRAP is an international initiative led by Diverse Patterns and Birds of Paradise Theatre Company (BOP), funded through the Unlimited International Open Award 2024. The project connects ten emerging disabled artists from Nepal and Scotland, providing a platform for creative exploration, storytelling, and accessible theatre-making.
The collaboration unfolds in three key phases:
1️⃣ Remote Workshops
2️⃣ Production in Nepal
3️⃣ Building an Accessible Theatre Culture
The project also serves as a professional development opportunity for emerging disabled artists and theatre practitioners. Emily Ingram, a UK-based emerging disabled director, will join as an Associate Artist, working alongside the BOP team and Nepali partners.
Why is UNWRAP Important?
In Nepal, disability inclusion in the arts is still evolving. Many disabled people face barriers in accessing education, employment, and cultural activities due to infrastructural and societal challenges. UNWRAP provides a much-needed platform for disabled artists to share their stories, challenge stereotypes, and push for greater accessibility in theatre.
