Our Objective

"The primary goal was to evaluate digital accessibility standards of the Supreme Court and Department of IT websites to support Access Planet's advocacy efforts for improved digital accessibility within these government agencies. The audit of DOIT held particular significance as the agency recently developed a universal template planned for deployment across all government websites in Nepal, meaning accessibility compliance would have a multiplicative effect on digital inclusion nationwide."

Project Overview

Diverse Patterns was engaged by Access Planet to conduct comprehensive accessibility audits of two critical Nepalese government websites: the Supreme Court of Nepal website and the Department of IT (DOIT) website. The project aimed to ensure accessibility of justice-related digital resources and advance digital accessibility standards in Access to Justice initiatives.

The audit of the Department of IT website held strategic importance because DOIT recently developed a universal template currently in use by their agency and planned for nationwide implementation across all government websites in Nepal. Ensuring this template’s accessibility compliance would create a multiplicative effect, potentially making all Nepalese government websites accessible.

Diverse Patterns served as the digital accessibility consultant throughout this engagement, conducting both manual and automated accessibility assessments. The manual auditing was performed by a person using a screen reader who was hired specifically for this project, while automated website accessibility scanners were also employed to ensure comprehensive coverage. The findings from both methods were compiled into detailed audit reports.

Upon completion, Access Planet presented the audit findings and recommendations to the relevant authorities to inform remediation efforts and establish accessible web standards for government digital properties. The evidence-based findings and recommendations provided Access Planet with the necessary information to build a compelling case for implementing improved accessibility standards in these critical public sector digital platforms.
